WeHo's Robotic Parking Lot, Good or Bad?


As some of you already know, the city of West Hollywood has been working on building the second fully automated parking structure west of the Mississippi (first is under construction in SaMo). And as of right now, the plan is moving forward with full force!

This $13 million+ project, which will reside at WeHo City Hall, will provide a total of 200 parking spaces for both city employees and neighborhood residents and visitors. While the city is very excited about this innovative green project, not everyone shares the same view. Many residents would rather see the money be allocated to a vast array of needs and challenges the city is currently facing.

Although West Hollywood is known for pushing boundaries, setting new standards and making huge impressions, it is too early to tell whether or not this project will be a wise investment. Concerns of retrieving the wrong vehicle, exterior or under vehicle damage, accessing cars in a timely manner, and cost efficiency are all bold points that local nay-sayers have brought up.

Will this new direction provide an efficient, streamlined parking alternative for West Hollywood patrons or will this over-sized computer simply be a problem creating waste of $13 million? I guess we will have to wait and see!
